Yuba-Sutter Health Officer Dr. Phuong Luu daily COVID-19 briefing – Kindness to healthcare staff

Good evening Yuba and Sutter community. Tonight I want to talk about kindness. For the past two weeks there’s been a lot
of dedicated health care staff, from the front desk answering the phones, checking you into
the clinics, to the ED, to the nurses and the doctors, working diligently to test you
and examine you for COVID-19. But then I hear that some of the community
residents have not been as kind to them. Have not been as professional to them. Meaning that I hear them being yelled at,
them being criticized when they say you know what sir or mam I don’t think you need COVID-19
testing. This is a time that is very anxious and anxiety
ridden, but we can control how we react to it. So therefore, I ask you to be kind. I ask you to be patient, to these health care
person. Flu, we have a treatment for it. It is called Tamiflu, but we don’t have
the equivalent treatment for COVID-19. So, if you have mild symptoms, even if you
have COVID-19, your doctor is going to recommend the supportive measures that we recommend
for all sort of common cold treatment, which are go home, hydrate, rest, take fever reducing
medications as needed to treat your symptoms, and stay home away from vulnerable populations. That’s it. So I hope you get some rest this weekend. Use your fear and anxiety and channel it through
exercise, taking a walk. But please don’t take it out on our health
care personnel, or anyone else. Have a good night.

  1. I’m sorry to hear this! I know people are scared, we all are, a little kindness goes a long way! Just the other day, I was in the Starbucks drive thru & the car in front of me bought my whole order! I was shocked & delighted, so I paid for the order of the car behind me. It really isn’t hard & a smile goes a long way!
